My name is Lucy Larsson. I was born on an island in the middle of the Pacific and have since lived in nine countries, but it was on Samoa that my body learned its first language: rhythm. Through Le Moana Weavers I carry that rhythm, the old ceremonies and the South Seas' way of being together, into Swedish rooms. Not as a show you watch. As something you are invited into.

I was born on Samoa, an island where the ocean is not a backdrop but a leading character: it decides the food, the music, the way people greet each other. Since then life has taken me through nine countries, and everywhere I've carried the same question: how do you find home, again and again, in new contexts?

In Sweden I have turned that question into my art. My performances weave together storytelling and movement, scent and rhythm, all inspired by the Samoan heritage I carry in my body. I've performed everywhere from Frihamnsdagarna in Gothenburg to intimate ceremonies at life's great turning points, and every time it comes down to the same thing: turning the audience into guests, not spectators.

Two journeys on the horizon

Landfall is what sailors call the moment land is first sighted after a voyage across open water. Here are two places Le Moana Weavers will soon come ashore.

On August 29, Le Moana Weavers joins Frihamnsdagarna in Gothenburg with a poetic performance where Polynesian dance, music and storytelling meet. From Moana, the world's largest ocean, to the port of Gothenburg, we tell a story about the courage to listen, about many voices, and about the ocean that has always brought people together.

It's said the ocean carries a thousand tales. A few of them have travelled all the way from Samoa to Mölndal. Join a magical journey to the South Seas: an interactive family performance with storytelling, Polynesian dance and playful discoveries about the ocean, where children get to dance, laugh, imagine and become part of the story.

Every booking is its own ocean to cross, but I've gathered my work into four forms. All of them rest on the same principle: it's the difference between putting a culture on display and inviting people into it.

The prices below are guidelines. The exact quote depends on venue, travel and number of performers.

Malaga

Samoan for journey

A single body in motion, with no map and no compass: only the memory of stars, wind and waves to navigate by. I build every Malaga around the theme you bring into the room: belonging, change, leadership, the courage to keep going even when the compasses point in different directions. The words are few. The movement carries the rest, and leaves the audience with a question to take home.

The Circle

ritual & welcome

There is an ancient way of truly welcoming someone: you share something in a circle, and whoever has drunk from it is no longer a guest but one of your own. I carry that ritual, song, words, a shared act, into weddings, anniversaries and life's turning points. Not as a spectacle for those seated, but as something everyone in the room actually does together, once, and remembers forever.

Fagogo

Samoan for story

Fagogo are stories that have travelled from mouth to ear for generations, about turtles and crabs in the world of the coral reef, about chiefs who listen to the ocean to know what's coming. I bring that world to children from age five, with song, dance and a stage that smells of flowers and salt. The children don't go home with facts about another culture. They go home with a story they were part of.

Fiafia

Samoan for joy

The big form. A full evening where the scent arrives before the drums, where food, dance, music and ceremony weave into a single pulsing flow with 8–10 dancers on stage. Guests are met at the door, carried through the evening's two movements, and leave not as visitors who saw a show, but as people who were invited into something alive.

Le Moana Weavers · guardians of the ocean

A dance and cultural group with its heart in Gothenburg and its roots in the Pacific. We celebrate, preserve and fight for Moana: the ocean, the source of life and our shared heritage, through dance, music and storytelling.

We ask: how do we navigate the future when the compasses point in different directions? The South Seas' answer is simple and radical: you listen to every voice at once, the wind, the waves and each other. It isn't just a way of navigating. It's democracy in the body.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you book

Most things can be adapted to your venue and occasion, but here are the answers to what usually comes up first.

01How far in advance should we book?+

For Malaga, The Circle and Fagogo, 6–8 weeks' notice is usually enough. A full Fiafia evening with 8–10 performers needs to be planned further ahead, ideally 3–6 months, since more dancers, travel and props need to be coordinated.

02What's included in the price?+

Fee, preparation and adaptation to your theme, plus costume and props. Travel within Västra Götaland is normally included; travel further afield, accommodation and any extra staging are quoted separately based on your event.

03What are your technical requirements?+

Malaga and Fagogo work with simple staging: a standard conference sound system and a headset mic are enough. The Circle mostly needs open floor space. Fiafia, as a full cultural evening, needs its own stage, sound and lighting; we go through this together before booking.

04Can the content be adapted to our theme or language?+

Yes. Malaga is always built around a theme you choose: belonging, change, leadership, or anything else you bring into the room. Welcome words and storytelling can be delivered in Swedish, English or Samoan, depending on what suits your audience.

05Are the performances suitable for children?+

Fagogo is built specifically for children aged five and up and works great for the whole family. Malaga, The Circle and Fiafia are primarily aimed at adult audiences, but can be adapted on request, get in touch and we'll talk through what suits your occasion.

06Do you travel outside Gothenburg?+

Yes, we're booked throughout Sweden and the wider Nordics. Travel and any accommodation for the performers is added on top of the base price and quoted based on distance and number of performers.

07How do we book, and how does the process work?+
